Four Tricks in Keeping Your Kid Entertained While Waiting

It’s not easy being a parent especially to a young little kid whose restlessness and hyperactivity can possibly drain your energy. And while you relish at every moment you spend with your kid, bonding with him, loving him, and caring for him, there are those times when you wish he’s not that hard to deal with like during long hours of waiting.

Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can use to keep your kid occupied and entertained during hours of waiting and keep yourself from going crazy from his constant whining and squirming.

One trick is to bring his favourite book or bring a new one he’s never seen before. Most kids love books especially those that have vibrant visual graphics and interactive features such as musical attachments and the like. During hours of waiting with your kid, he will be captivated and keep him entertained for a while.

Now, if he’s gone through all the pages and is finished with the book but the wait isn’t over yet, this second trick will definitely work, give your kid snacks like biscuits and crackers to munch on. If your kid is one that is fond of eating, he will surely give his restless body a rest and divert his attention on the food that you give.

Just be cautious about giving him food, you don’t want to give your kid junk food that not only ruins his appetite but are also empty calories that do nothing good for your kid. Also, give him snacks only for a while and not during the entire duration of waiting especially if you have to wait for long hours because you don’t want to instil excessive snacking habits that may trigger the development of obesity over time.

Third trick is to equip your kid with the zoo play cubes that will capture his attention and hold it for some time with mind enriching activities that will enhance and improve some of his skills like color and pattern recognition, fine motor skills, spatial awareness and will spark his creativity and imagination.

For example you can offer your kid the Transportation & Police Learning Cube. He will surely love the thrill and action of engaging in police car chases by sliding the toy cars through the maze. This waiting room toy also offers many other fun and educational activities. For instance, he will love learning how to count by playing with the cube’s wooden discs.

What’s good about these waiting room toys is that they keep your kid entertained during waiting while at the same time stimulating his mind and contributing to his overall mental development.

Fourth and final trick is to play games with your kid. Either join him as he explores his Deluxe Venture Ship with Figures and Accessories or play old classic toys. You can play toddler games like patty-cake or monkey see with your toddler or a simple pictionary game (you only need a pen and paper for this) if you have an older kid.

So next time you have to wait, be sure to bring your kid’s waiting room toys, a book to read, some munchies handy and a few games up your sleeve. See this waiting time not as a boring time but a chance for both of you to bond and enjoy.
