While there’s that fear in you that the outside world may not be safe for your precious little one, and that at the back of your mind you picture all sorts of bad things that may happen to your kid if you let him step out the perimeters of your safety zone, you also know that sooner or later you’d have to let go and you’d have to take him outdoor.
Outdoor play should not be a cause for paranoia but instead should be a cause for fun and joy for both you and your little darling.
To ensure you of outdoor fun, here are some tips you can follow:
- Be safe at all times. Outdoor play with your kid is different from play inside the house. Never leave your kid alone outside even if it’s just in your backyard and you just need to go to the restroom for one minute. Remember, it may only take a minute for something unfortunate to happen. Don’t take that risk and bring your kid with you inside the house even it means that you have to carry him on your back.
Don’t allow your kid to play on the streets. The sidewalk is fine, as long as you’re there at his side. Better yet, let him play in the park or at the playground. Because even in the most peaceful and quiet neighbourhood, you never know when a drunken lunatic may be driving an over speeding car. You don’t want to risk your kid’s life by allowing him to play on the street.
- Don’t forget to bring toys that will boost his physical skills. Rides on toys and bikes are great for strengthening his lower body and make him have a delightful afternoon of outdoor play. You can also bring on a couple of balls which you can play catch or let him kick around. These toys are effective enhancers of his gross motor skills and muscle coordination.
But of course, you shouldn’t forget his fine motor skills. Keep his hands busy by giving him waiting room toys like zoo play cubes while he rests from his ride on toy. These activity tables offer activities like bead sliding and wooden peg manuevering that will be especially good for his fine motor skills.
- Equip him with toys that will enhance his mental capabilities. Physical skills are not the only skills that should be honed during outdoor playing fun. Waiting room toys such as learning cubes are practical for this purpose because they’re handy and convenient to bring outside. A waiting room toy like the Transportation & Police Learning Cube is a lightweight wooden cube that has five different sides for learning opportunities. With a waiting room toy like Multi Function Play Station, you need not bring an entire set of a big bulky educational toy to work on enhancing your kid’s mental abilities.
- Prepare great snacks. After a fun but energy draining afternoon play, a sumptuous snack will surely be a great way to end your kid’s outdoor enjoyment.
Remember, playing outdoor is an essential part of your kid’s playtime. Be sure you give lots of opportunities for fun but mind and body enriching outdoor games that you can both enjoy.
