Activity Cube for Toddlers
Stimulate your Kid’s Senses

Your kid learns about the world around him by using his senses—his sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste. Through his eyes, he sees a world of different colors and shapes; through his ears, he hears the sounds of cars or the humming of birds or the singing of your neighbour; through his nose, he knows the aroma of your cooking, the scent of a perfume and the stink of the trash; through his mouth and tongue, he experiences sweetness and sourness; through touching, he is acquainted with all sorts of textures—soft, hard, rough, and smooth.

And because exploring the environment is a prime source of learning and an important area of your kid’s developmental progress, it is of utmost importance that you are able to enhance the senses that he’s going to use to discover and explore.

1. One effective way to do that is to provide him with vast opportunities for play and activities that will work on his senses. For one, you can give him Deluxe Bead Fun with Cars & Signs on Frame Base designed for sensory stimulation that he can play with while his senses are being honed.

Waiting room toys like Activity Cube for Toddlers provide different sides of different activities. Each side offers an activity that is good for boosting your kid’s senses most especially his sense of sight and touch. By sliding wooden pegs or manipulating wooden play sets on his waiting room toy, his visual perception and shape, color and pattern recognition as well as fine motor skills are being enhanced.

Sir Roderick's Castle Fortress with Figures & Accessories is also efficient in cultivating other areas of your kid’s mental development such as imagination, creativity and spatial relations.

Musical toys on the other hand are effective enhancers for his sense of hearing. Other than that, the different sounds, tunes and melodies that your kid hears also stimulate areas of his brain that are related to cognitive skills.

2. Take him outside and introduce him to the things that abound the environment. Introduce him to the things he sees and tell him what the thing is for. Point to a car and say “that is a car, people ride cars to get to places” or show him the trees and say “these are trees, they bear fruits and keep the air clean.” This is helpful for his language development as well as for expanding his vocabulary.

3. Let him taste different kinds of food and let him smell different food aroma to heighten his senses of taste and smell. Prepare for him different kinds of meals everyday so he is able to experience all sorts of tastes—sweet, salty, sour, spicy and bitter. Be cautious however because your kid may not be ready for bitter and spicy yet and may be traumatized if given these tastes. Let him smell food as well as the different things around him like flowers and perfume. Also, while doing so it is very important to tell your kid what is the thing that you’re making him taste or smell so that he knows.

4. Give him lots of hugs and kisses to stimulate his sense of touch. There’s no better way to stimulate your kid’s sense of touch than by showering him with affection. This will not only boost his touching sense but also make him feel loved and cared for. Other ways to boost his sense of touch is by allowing him to feel different textures like sand paper, cloth, cotton and many others. Again, be sure you narrate to your kid what specifically is the thing he’s feeling and what texture it is.

There are so many ways you can do to stimulate your kid’s senses. Just make sure that you make learning through his senses a meaningful, fun and memorable experience for him.
